  1. I'm pleased by the juxtaposition of King Lear and the divine Police Squad. When you commented recently about the often unacknowledged darkness in Shakespeare's comedies, I silently agreed with the addition that with the slightest of tweaks, the tragedies would become comedies. It has always been my secret wish to see a production of Lear where (with no textual changes) the whole thing was played as a farce. It would require, as the Fat Man said to Sam Spade, "nice judgment and many resources" but I think it could be done.

The best thing on your list, I think, is Meet Me in St. Louis. Tootie is a bit of an icon around my house.

    1. Hahaha.
I have to think about King Lear as a farce.
      Tootie is fabulous.
I think the best film on my list (just film, not counting the plays) is A Star Is Born. Followed by Room at the Top. Meet Me in St Louis is definitely charming though.
